I often see a bird that looks just like this Northern Cardinal foraging around in the leaves and from low branches in my backyard. I thought for sure it was a "species" of a cardinal but just now I found out on All About Birds that it is a FEMALE Northern Cardinal. The Red Cardinals are boys! All About Birds is fast becoming one of my favorite places to visit.
