A lovely day enjoying Hill Country wines

Yesterday we decided to visit Flat Creek Estate Vineyards and Winery in Marble Falls to taste wines and also to explore the North Side of of Lake Travis in Lago Vista. The scenery to Lago Vista and Marble Falls was absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful views, winding roads, a wildlife refuge, and despite the prevalence of hills, we didn't see one cyclist. As we entered the Estate, we passed vineyards which boasted large bunches of grapes. I so wanted to jump out and taste one of the grapes right off the vine.

The winery was quite busy but luckily we were able to secure a table and begin our portfolio and diva tasting for $5 and $10 respectively. The portfolio tasting includes a tasting your choice of 6 out of 8 wines on the menu. The Diva tasting also includes tasting 6 wines on the portfolio menu plus your choice of tasting a Pinot Blanc or Mistella (dessert wine) and a keepsake glass. I was pleasantly surprised by all of the wines I tasted in the Estate's portfolio, especially the 2007 Pinot Grigio. I still can't believe the Hill Country has one, and a nice one at that. I would definitely recommend visiting Flat Creek for a tasting in their winery or even better, visit their bistro for a 3-course wine lunch for $35.
