Always on my mind
One of my all-time favorite singer songwriters is Willie Nelson. His songs always remind me of my home in Texas, my family and my step-dad who taught me how to two-step. As I listen to Willie while studying, my thoughts turn to those dancing days with my step-dad. He was quite a charaacter and would defintely be what Willie considered an "outlaw". He helped my mom raise my brother and I from when we were tiny tots and was truly our 2nd dad. Unfortunately this post doesn't have a happy ending, he was killed unexpectedly almost two years ago. And I'm often reminded how difficult it is to deal with. It just doesn't seem possible that he's gone. To this day, I look for him driving his big rig every time I'm on the highway. He drove cross-country for most of the 30 years of my life. And every time I hear Willie or Waylon, I think of him and his outlaw ways with a pang in my heart. We had a lot of distance between us (literally and sometimes figuratively as families often do) but we could always count on Willie and a Budweiser to close the gap.
